Current Job Openings at Equal Education
- PARLIAMENTARY OFFICER
Job: Parliament is democracy’s principal oversight mechanism. EE needs to monitor and report on committees, and bills. We need to engage with MPs, arrange site-visits and build relationships. Qualifications: A law degree or strong university qualification. Outstanding writing, comprehension, networking and relationship-building skills. Deep commitment to equality and human rights.
- FULLTIME ACADEMIC TUTOR AND MENTOR FOR EE MEMBERS AT UNIVERSITY
Job: A significant number of EE members from Khayelitsha and elsewhere are now studying in tertiary institutions, whilst maintaining a busy commitment to leading EE youth groups and activism. The job involves individual academic tutoring to these members, sourcing other tutors and mentors for them, providing support, and facilitating their on-going involvement in their communities. Qualifications: A university degree. Excellent writing, organizational and people skills. Teaching or tutoring experience is preferable. Since most of the students are at UCT we’d prefer someone (not essential) who went to UCT, and who understands the challenges faced by township students.
- FINANCIAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES ADMIN ASSISTANT
Job: The Operations Manager, Michelle Adler, needs an assistant for a host of financial and HR tasks, including preparing documents, scheduling, filing, minute taking, report writing, and communication. Qualifications: Excellent reading, writing and mathematical skills. The applicant must have a strong command of Microsoft Excel (& preferably knowledge of Pastel). An ideal job for a new BCom graduate.
- POSTMASTER
Job: EE needs to regularly post out a wide range of publications. This job involves using the EE database to print mailing labels, label envelopes, fill envelopes with covering letters and publications, and update contact lists regularly. It is likely that this position will require half-days only and therefore those seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply. Qualifications: A person who works independently and pays close attention to detail and writes and organizes very well.
All positions at EE head office in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Apply to vacancies@equaleducation.org.z a. Please include CV & cover letter. It is crucial that cover letter explains interest in the specific job applied for. Closing date for all positions: 25 May 2012.
